Galebach's Floor Finishing is the oldest floor finishing company in Lancaster County. The company was founded in 1924 by John K. Galebach. At the time, John was a carpenter, who built stairways, installed flooring and finished it. One thing he did not enjoy was scraping floors by hand, which was how things were done back then. One day he saw an advertisement for the first electric floor sanding machine. He decided to order one. It arrived by train in Manheim where John picked it up and began putting it to use.

Once you have decided to have a wood floor refinished, you may wonder what the first step is. Usually people request us to come and see the floor and work up a quote for them. This is always the best way to start because not all wood floors are "sandable". If they have been sanded many times over the years, there does come a point where they are too thin to sand.

You made it through the refinishing process. Please wait a minimum of 48 hours before placing furniture back onto the floor. If you are putting a large area rug down, wait a week to allow the floor to cure properly. Now it's time to educate yourself (or your cleaning lady) on the proper care of your wood floors.
