PLEASE NOTE: After casting, our firebacks are dipped in a water-based flat black paint to prevent rust during storage and transportation.
Pennsylvania Fireback artist J. Del Conner can create a custom designed and sculpted fireback pattern for limited edition castings. Send a sketch or other reference material for your design idea to Pennsylvania Firebacks for a free estimate. If you approve the project, a full sized layout of the design will be submitted for approval before pattern is produced.
Pennsylvania Fireback can easily and safely be installed in a hearth by using a pair of Saf-T-Boot fireback supports. The Saf-T-Boot's unique step design enables a fireback to be held leaning slightly back, upright, or leaning forward at a number of angles against the back wall of the hearth. Saf-T-Boots and your fireback can be used with most cast iron grates, wrought iron grates, andirons, or gas log systems.
A Fireback's natural protective, reflective and decorative features are just at home behind a kitchen range, as they are as the focal point of the home's hearth. A fireback can be simply glued to the wallboard behind a range using a flexible construction adhesive. For use as a backsplash a fireback can also be drilled and strapping attached to the back of the fireback with screws attaching the exposed section of the strapping passing through the wallboard to studs.A Fireback can also be drilled and directly screwed to studs behind the wallboard.
Stove polish or stove black brings a beautiful long lasting, low-luster black finish to painted and unpainted cast iron surfaces. This black satin, water based, semi-paste polish can be applied over our factory applied water based paint, or after a fireback has been used in the hearth. If applied to a fireback before use in a hearth, lightly sanding the high spots of the fireback with medium grade sandpaper is recommended before application of polish.If applied to a fireback after use in a hearth, remove rust and soot with a wire brush or steel wool before application of polish.
