When Roy May started his general store, the closest supply source was in Boise, a two day journey. Roy's philosophy was "you can't sell it if you don't have it, " and he stocked his store accordingly. He was known for having everything from dynamite to fishing lures (which were sometimes used together!). That philosophy hasn't changed. Customers often marvel at the depth of products available in this little store. The original May Hardware was on the south side of Lake Street in downtown McCall. In 1940, it moved across the street onto the lakeshore where it remained until 2002.
Services
May Hardware has been known for it's quality locksmithing for 30 years. We do safe and safe deposit box work, rekey locks both in the store and in the field, provide emergency lockout services for home and auto, install and repair locks, install and maintain access control systems, and are able to cut automotive keys to code.
May Hardware stocks the basics for your auto and small engine needs. Towing components, motor oil, additives, cleaners and waxes. We proudly offer the Cadillac of paint care, Liquid Glass waxes and cleaning products. We also offer a selection of auto body repair products, fuses, trailer wiring and lights, straps and tie-downs and safety products.
DIY'ers as well as contractors will find everything they need in our electrical department. A large selection of rough in materials, wire, and breakers headlines this department. EMT conduit and fittings thru 1", PVC conduit and fittings thru 2" and Unistrut rail & fittings. All of the boxes and connectors needed for your wiring project, along with tapes, splices, wire nuts and assorted specialty items.
Our hardware department is the flagship section at May Hardware. We learned early that in a small remote town, having a wide variety of merchandise on the shelf, with ample depth in fast moving items, is vital to serving our customers. The basic items, such as, screws, bolts and fasteners are well stocked and broad in variety.

Snow blower repair! Oh hallelujah the repair shop services snow blowers and they do a great job! Great customer service at drop off and they got right to it. They called me with the findings and were professional, knowledgeable. The techs got inside my old Craftsman blower due to the auger not engaging. Their initiative found the issue and a few long overdue repair needs outside of the current symptoms. I appreciate that approach so GD much! Hard to find any customer service like this lately! May Hardware is hands down the finest local brick and mortar hardware store I've stepped foot in. I've been shopping with May for nearly 20 years, and their commitment to a WIDE SELECTION of goods on hand is simply astounding. In this day and age of internet shopping dominance, we are lucky to have a business like this willing to invest cash and human resource to carve out a retail space where people like me can actually get eyes and hands on the products I'm looking to buy. They have "everything" and if by some odd chance they don't have it, they will order it for you. Great ownership committed to their staff, customers and community.

These guys have EVERYTHING! Very nice clean store, great people who are very helpful! Prices seem lower than Boise. Beau helped us with some insulation (it was in the warehouse) three huge bags, brought them to the register and then loaded them into our pickup. May Hardware has my vote and my business!

You can't beat May Hardware. They seem to always have what I need, but more importantly the staff is wonderful. They are knowledgeable and very helpful. Today I needed to use the curbside pickup for an item that was on the ACE web site. While on the phone Linae checked on the item and actually went and pulled if off the shelf to make sure it was the correct. I paid while on the phone. Can't say enough good things about her. Curbside pickup took less than three minutes. Thank you May Hardware!

Excellent and outstanding service! I broke my boat key and it was the only copy I had. The staff here went so far out of their way to help me I was blown away. They easily could have said this is tough we don't have the part and sent me away like most businesses would. 4 or 5 employees all took an interest and brain stormed how to help me while they were busy. May Hardware is not our only choice in our small town for hardware stuff, but it is my go to first choice. I usually can find what I need, but the best part is the staff. I am not a handy person. When God handed out the handy man talent I was getting a burger somewhere. The staff on many occasions have helped me figure out how to solve a problem that I had and then showed me where to get all that I needed. It's a great place.

I needed a few things for a repair and was happy with prices, customer service, and that they were enforcing customers wear masks while offering to shop and bring outside to those who didn't want to wear one. I appreciate they care for their employees and customers. Will definitely shop there again!

Had exactly what I needed! The moment I walked in I was greeted and escorted to the area I needed to be. Was shown the items I needed. I also wasn't pressured to purchase the higher priced item and I found that super respectful. The staff is absolutely awesome there. The paint is a little pricier than other places but I found them to be very knowledgeable in paints and colors.

These guys are great! I was on a project in McCall for 6 months and every time I thought some little part or piece of hardware was going to shut my project down all I had to do was go to May hardware and lo and behold they had it. I was amazed at the selection that they have. from electrical parts to general hardware to shovels and everything you would expect from a hardware store but rarely actually find all in one place this place never let me down. I actually feel bad for the employees of this store because when they do inventory it must take days!
