In 1972, Walter Madsen purchased Fimbel Door Co. on Rte 55 in Poughkeepsie. The company was renamed Madsen Overhead Doors, and consisted of one salesman, one secretary, three installers, and three trucks. The company name was changed to Dutchess Overhead Doors in 1973. As the company grew, Walter retired and his son Daniel W. Madsen assumed oversight responsibility.
Dutchess Overhead Doors provides both residential and commercial garage door service to customers in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster Counties. Dutchess Overhead Doors can do it all, servicing all brands of garage doors, not just the ones we sell here. Our experienced technicians can fix nearly any broken garage door.
This relatively new category has grown to include many different construction methods and materials. The doors are typically designed to mimic the details and appearance of "old fashioned" swinging or folding type doors, but operate like a sectional overhead door. This innovation allows for the use of standard garage door openers and hardware, as well as achieving higher insulating values.

I would not recommend this company. The garage doors are the long term investment and if the installation itself was okay, the follow up service was terrible. So a year later our door started to make a loud noise even though they advertise it as the smooth and quiet. So technician came and added a bracket. We got charged not only for the service call but the bracket too even though it was supposed to be installed in the first place.
He did not even inspect the door to see that the plastic on one of the sensors was broken. Very poor customer service. I personally measure the professionalism of the company based on continuation of customer care. Anyone can install, it's just a the follow up service that matters the most.

Everyone we talked to recommended Dutchess Overhead Doors for our new garage doors and they were right. We had such an enjoyable experience working with Dan to come up with the perfect design and setup. Dan was so helpful and communicative, which made the entire process feel fun and easy. The installation team came out and took care of everything quickly and in good spirits.

One of the extension springs on my garage door broke. I didn't know the correct weight of the spring and couldn't find any label on the door. I took the spring to Dutchess Overhead and worked with Christine to find the right springs. The first set of springs were 10lb off, but she told me no problem to bring it back and get the correct one. She was very helpful and allowed me to fix the door myself. I highly recommend Dutchess Overhead Doors.

From the day of the consultation to the day of the installation, it has been a pleasure working with the team. They took their time explaining everything on day 1, including discussing different options at different price points and other details. We opted for a modern aluminum glass door, a beautiful commercial grade product. My pictures barely do it justice. The process was AS SMOOTH AS IT GETS. We gained light and space in the garage and eliminated significant draft from the poor seal from the old door. Highly recommend.

I had my new garage door installed today. I could not have asked for a better installation and service. The installers came when they said they would. They were polite and did an amazing job. When they left my garage was spotless. They even wiped down the exterior of the door to make sure there were no smudges on it. Took plenty of time to explain all of the new features. I now have an insulated, virtually silent beautiful door. They are the best.
